Covering recent changes to the GHS as it applies to Victoria
From 1 January 2017, the Globally Harmonized System for Classifying and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) will be mandatory for workplace hazardous chemicals in NSW, QLD, SA, TAS, ACT, NT and Commonwealth jurisdictions.
From 1 July 2017, the classification, labelling and safety data sheets under the GHS, for workplace hazardous chemicals, is scheduled to come into effect in Victoria.
Anyone who deals with chemicals will need to be aware of this new system to understand its relevance and your obligations, and we encourage you to attend this informative Briefing.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO YOUR BUSINESS?
This means a number of products that are at present classified as ‘not hazardous’ under the old NOHSC Approved Criteria (AC) can now be classified as ‘hazardous’ according to the GHS criteria under the WHS Regulations. The Model Work Health and Safety (WHS) Regulations legislate the use of the GHS system for the classification and labelling of chemicals. The GHS is an internationally recognised system of classification and labelling of chemicals that has been developed by the United Nations (UN) committee to communicate information about hazardous substances and chemicals on safety data sheets and labels.
