SUMMARY:Globally Harmonized System for Classifying and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) BRIEFING - Sept 22\, 2016
DESCRIPTION:Scroll down for program and details \n Presented by the \nAustralian Environment Business Network (AEBN)\n \n \n22 September  2016 8.45am for 9.00am to 3.00pm\nMELBOURNE \n  \nFrom 1 January 2017\, the Globally Harmonized System for Classifying and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) will be mandatory in NSW\, QLD\, SA\, TAS\, ACT\, NT and Commonwealth jurisdictions.  It is already acceptable in VIC and WA\, and a large number of Australian companies are adopting it now.   \nThe Australian Environment Business Network (AEBN) suggests consistency within your business.  This means\, if you have offices or sites in the states and territories where implementation of this new system will be mandatory\, as well as offices or sites in the states where it is not currently mandatory\, we recommend that you introduce this new system throughout your business to avoid confusion.  \nA 5 year transitional period\, that will expire on 31 December 2016 has been provided by Worksafe Australia for companies to implement the new system.   \nAnyone who deals with chemicals will need to be aware of this new system to understand its relevance and your obligations\, and we encourage you to attend this informative Briefing.  \n \nWhat does this mean to your business?\nAfter 31 December 2016\, all workplace hazardous chemicals MUST be classified and labelled according to the GHS under the Model Work Health and Safety (WHS) Regulations. \nThis means a number of products that are at present classified as ‘not hazardous’ under the old NOHSC Approved Criteria (AC) can now be classified as ‘hazardous’ according to the GHS criteria under the WHS Regulations. \nThe Model Work Health and Safety (WHS) Regulations legislate the use of the GHS system for the classification and labelling of chemicals.  The GHS is an internationally recognised system of classification and labelling of chemicals that has been developed by the United Nations (UN) committee to communicate information about hazardous substances and chemicals on safety data sheets and labels. \n   \nWho should attend? \n\nAnyone who manufactures\, imports and  markets hazardous chemicals\nAnyone who works with hazardous chemicals including stores personnel\nAnyone who transports hazardous chemicals\nAnyone who deals with chemicals will need to be aware of this new system to understand its relevance and your obligations. \n\nLearning Outcomes \n\nUnderstand the legislation requirements of chemical management in the workplace\nIdentify GHS Hazard Class and Categories for Hazardous Chemicals\nIdenify and interpret key safety information and terms with Safety Data Sheets (SDS)\nIdentify and interpret key safety information and terms within GHS product labels. \n\nPresenter \nAdrian ThomasHazardous Chemicals SpecialistAustralian Environment Business Network (AEBN) \nNetworking Opportunity \nThe Briefing will provide the opportunity to network with presenters and delegates during AEBN’s networking morning tea break (Morning Tea and Lunch).   \nDetails
