DESCRIPTION:Summary \n\nPresented by theAustralian Environment Business Network (AEBN) \nINTRODUCTORY LEVEL WORKSHOP – 24 APRIL 2013\, AM HALF DAY \nOn 1 December 2012\, new regulations for the storage and handling of dangerous goods\, Dangerous Goods (Storage & Handling) Regulations 2012\, came into effect in Victoria. \nThe key changes introduced by the Regulations relate to the application of the regulations\, in particular – the definitions and terms.  The Regulations also affect the requirements regarding the – Classification and labelling; Preparation of a Materials Safety Data Sheet (MSDS); Risk assessment and review; External placarding; Register; Incidents; Notification of quantities in excess of manifest quantities\, and much more.  The Regulations 2012 continue to impose requirements on the same duty holders as the ‘Interim’ Regulations\, such as the manufacturers\, first suppliers and occupiers. \nOrganisations have an obligation to ensure they are up to date and compliant with these changes\, and that staff receive appropriate training.  The AEBN recommends that staff receive refresher training every 2 to 3 years\, and certainly when new legislation is introduced. \nNOTE:   The Victorian Workshop will cover the Federal and Victorian laws and requirements. DESCRIPTION:Summary\nPresented by the Australian Environment Business Network (AEBN) \nINTERMEDIATE LEVEL Workshop \nNew Victorian Dangerous Goods regulations are set to come into effect on 1 December 2012. \nA number of significant changes have taken place in the past 10 months that relate to the safe STORAGE\, HANDLING AND TRANSPORT of dangerous goods and hazardous chemicals across Australia. Organisations have an obligation to ensure they are up to date and compliant with these changes\, and that staff receive appropriate training. \nOn 1 January 2012\, the new model Work Health and Safety laws (WHS Act and Regulations) commenced in New South Wales\, Queensland\, the Australian Capital Territory\, the Commonwealth and Northern Territory. Jurisdicational progress on implementing the model work health and safety laws has been delayed in other states. \nFor those jurisdictions which have already implemented the new WHS laws\, the changes will impact on the way you STORE\, HANDLE AND TRANSPORT dangerous goods and hazardous chemicals within those States and Territories. \nWith reference to Victoria\, Worksafe Victoria had recently published its draft workplace safety laws that relate to the safe handling of dangerous goods. The proposed draft Dangerous Goods (Storage & Handling) Regulations 2012 are currently out for public comment. Its planned implementation date is 1 December 2012. The draft Victorian regulations will be covered in this workshop. \nThe AEBN recommends that staff receive refresher training every 2 to 3 years. \nPlease note: The Victorian Workshop will cover the Federal and Victorian laws and requirements. DESCRIPTION:Summary\n\nPresented by theAustralian Environment Business Network (AEBN) \nNew Victorian Dangerous Goods regulations are set to come into effect on 1 December 2012. \nA number of significant changes have taken place in the past 10 months that relate to the safe STORAGE\, HANDLING AND TRANSPORT of dangerous goods and hazardous chemicals across Australia.  Organisations have an obligation to ensure they are up to date and compliant with these changes\, and that staff receive appropriate training. \nOn 1 January 2012\, the new model Work Health and Safety laws (WHS Act and Regulations) commenced in New South Wales\, Queensland\, the Australian Capital Territory\, the Commonwealth and Northern Territory. Jurisdicational progress on implementing the model work health and safety laws has been delayed in other states. \nFor those jurisdictions which have already implemented the new WHS laws\, the changes will impact on the way you STORE\, HANDLE AND TRANSPORT dangerous goods and hazardous chemicals within those States and Territories. \nWith reference to Victoria\, Worksafe Victoria had recently published its draft workplace safety laws that relate to the safe handling of dangerous goods.  The proposed draft Dangerous Goods (Storage & Handling) Regulations 2012 are currently out for public comment.  Its planned implementation date is 1 December 2012.  The draft Victorian regulations will be covered in this workshop. \nThe AEBN recommends that staff receive refresher training every 2 to 3 years. \nPlease note:  The Victorian Workshop will cover the Federal and Victorian laws and requirements. DESCRIPTION:From 1 January 2012\, significant changes have taken place to the National model Work Health and Safety (WHS) Regulations. These changes will affect the way we store\, handle and transport dangerous goods and hazardous substances. \nThe progress made by each state and territory in adopting these changes has varied greatly. Therefore\, organisations have an obligation to ensure they are up to date with these developments. Obligations include ensuring that your staff are up to date with the changes and that they have received adequate training to comply with the latest legislation. \nThe AEBN recommends that staff receive refresher training every 2 to 3 years. The Workshop will provide information on the new Regulations\, the Global Harmonisation System Labels\, the changes to the new standard for Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and much more. \nThe AEBN Introductory Level to Dangerous Goods Storage and Handling Workshop will cover the following topics. \nProgram\n\nAn overview of the various Global Harmonisation System Labels and changes to the national standard for Safety Data Sheets (SDS)\nAn overview of Dangerous Goods Storage & Handling Regulations\nChanges to Australian Dangerous Goods Code ADG7 Edition\nChain of responsibility and safety obligations for manufacturers\, occupiers\, loaders\, transferors\, etc.\,\nUnderstanding the terminology\, i.e. Proper Shipping Name\, Class\, Subsidiary Risk\, Packing Group\, UN Number\, Haz-chem Code and much more\nDetailed review of the 9 Classes of Dangerous Goods\nChanges to the Classifications\nThe incompatibilities and their hazards\nDetails of the changes to Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)\, their content and application\nSources of information\nThe use of Australian Standards and their purpose.\n\nPresenter\n John Manning: AEBN Dangerous Goods Specialist (Australian Environment Business Network) \n John is AEBN’s National Dangerous Goods Specialist. He has a wealth of experience and knowledge that spans well over 30 years in dangerous goods\, hazardous substances\, risk assessments and management\, Emergency Response\, MSDSs\, training\, auditing and consultancy\, in particular within the Australian and Asia Pacific Region’s chemical\, plastics\, mining\, textitles\, food and agricultural sectors. \nWho should attend?\nThe Introductory Workshop is most relevant to those personnel with a general understanding of Dangerous Goods Storage and Handling requirements; or those personnel that require a refresher of the new laws and requirements. \n
