Expressions of interest are sought for projects that can recover and recycle organic and commercial and industrial waste. Funding is available under the Victorian Government’s Conserve, Invest and Save strategy through the reinvestment of landfill levies.
The 2 funding opportunities, currently open for applications, provide a total of $3.5 million –
- Driving Investment for New Recycling (DINR)
This funding initiative includes a total of $3m to improve and increase recycling and recovery of commercial and industrial (C&I) waste, including food organics.This Round is available across metropolitan and regional Victoria. The fund provides grants of between $200,000 and $500,000.
Expressions of interest are open now and will close on Friday 7 September 2012.

- Building Victoria’s Organics Recovery Package
This funding initiative provides a total of $500,000 and offers individual grants of up to $100,000 for infrastructure, market development and education programs, reducing organics going to regional and rural landfills.A separate, targeted grants program is also being developed to focus on the regional centres of Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong. This funding will prioritise regions outside of those centres.
Funding applications for this package are open now and will close on Wednesday 3 October 2012.

The funds will target key issues in the waste management sector, specifically diverting commercial and industrial waste and organic waste from landfill.
The grants are to encourage investment from the private sector, government organisations and not-for-profit organisations to help reduce Victoria’s greenhouse gas emissions.
- Transition support to improve rural landfill infrastructure program
The Victorian Government announced that 17 rural landfill operators will receive a total of $3.87 millionto participate in the Transition Support to Improve Rural Landfill Infrastructure program, under the Conserve, Invest and Save strategy,
Castlemaine landfill is one of those successful landfill operators who will receive up to $250,000 in funding for an upgrade of the landfill to meet tighter EPA standards.
The fund is made possible through the reinvest of the landfill levy to assist small, rural councils and shires that have landfills that need to be upgraded to meet these stricter EPA standards.
